Dogs That Are Really Small (A Compact List)
Some people are not a huge fan of big giant dogs, well I’m one of them but i do not dislike small sized dogs at all find them very adorable, and if you are just like me and wants a spedicla dog breed that is not only small in size but also very loyal friendly, genetle, cute and beginner friendly, this guide is for you.
So without wasting any more time, let’s dive right into it.
1: Pomeranian
They are one of the most popular breeds out there with a distinct fur; they look like white snows, especially the white pomeranians. They are super adorable and lovely.
However, the problem with them is that they sometimes get aggressive and need obedience training from the beginning.
Do I recommend them? Absolutely I do. New owners or first-time owners can definitely have a great time with them, and they also have a pretty decent life span, so you can live happily with them for a long period of time.
2: Shih Tzu
Shih Tzus are probably the most attractive-looking cutie pies. They are tiny, insanely energetic, and great at hunting bird breeds. They are like queens of mini dog breeds.
However, keeping a shih tzu seems like an easy job, but trust me, it’s one of the most difficult things. These small, fluffy dogs are not just energetic, but they run around for hours, they save energy for these especially occasions, and once it comes, they go crazy.
Shih Tzu needs an active owner, someone who can help them put out their energy. Busy lifestyle people need to stay away from them; however, if you have a plan to manage, and if you only want this cute little breed, you can go for it for sure.
Also, about their history, they were created as alert or guard-type dogs that bark whenever they sense a threat; however, they quickly became really popular due to their cuteness and became mainstream dogs.
They can be a bit pricey in the United States; also, their demand keeps increasing.
3: Yorkshire Terrier
The greatest thing about this breed is that they are hypoglycemic dogs, apart from being truly cutie pies. Yorkshire Terriers are now becoming mainstream and getting their long due to reward now.
They are too highly active dogs with a unique look that quickly catches the eyes of the viewer. Now, they have a lot of hair and they are small with a lot of energy, but surprisingly, their being hypoallergenic, which means they do not shed any hair, makes them a very sought-after breed.
Definitely a great option if you want a breed like that.
A quick history about them, they were developed or created as mice-catching dogs in England’s Yorkshire. They got their names from their state or region.
Due to their in-built hunting ability, they can be found hunting for mice or other small prey at your home.
4: Maltese
Maltese are very old dogs, some estimate them to have originated in Malta around insane 2,000 years back. Can you imagine that?
Due to them being so old of breed, they have been featured in many historical events, such as the Great Malta War. The primary purpose of developing them was to keep people alert to dangerous animals roaming around or hunters; however, after some years, it quickly became a household member for many families.
Now, Maltese or not only limited to Malta but all around the world, especially in the US, the rise of their popularity is increasing.
They have a great temperament, can be good with people but wary of strangers, and they are gentle, mostly, and full of energy, and also have a great lifespan.
Will they suit your needs? Well, to find out that, you need to ask some questions: do you follow a busy schedule, do you have family members who are non-working?
Why these questions? Well, Maltese are very affectionate of their owners and struggle to live in their absence, so if you follow a busy lifestyle, you might wanna go with a breed that is more chill and can live alone if needed.
5: Toy Poodle
If you don’t know, poodles come in two types, large and small; the smaller ones are called Toy Poodles. The toy poodle is a highly intelligent dog with a great, friendly temperament.
They are a mixture of a normal poodle and a golden retriever. They are a bit energetic and need a lot of playtime almost every day; running a busy schedule might not suit this breed.
Toy Poodles, however, are very attractive; they can be a great tool for you to gain likes and social presence on sites like TikTok and Instagram, or even YouTube, as people just adore them.
Though toy poodles have long hair and do shed seasonally but they are mostly hypoallergenic dogs, so if you are allergic to dog fur, they can be a great option for you.
Their life span is also solid, with some living up to 16 years. A highly recommended breed, especially for allergic people.
6: Pug
Pugs are super sweet, and you might have seen them in Vodafone commercials. They are owned buy some of the most popular individuals on the planet, such as pewdiepie, tom cruise, selence gomez, etc.
They are sweet genetle, and have a great temperament suited for all people, especsiallythose those who follow a busy schedule and can’t give enough time to dogs.
Conclusion
Selecting the right breed of dog, especially for the first time, can be a big, big headache; however, with this post, i had in mind to help you guys in deciding which dog breed gonna suit your needs.
I personally find the Pomeranian dog the best fit if you are a first time owner, as they are calmer compared to other dogs in the list and a bit easy to handle.
But it is still up to you, as other options are also quite great, what do you think?

Btw pug is also a great option if you, for some reason, don’t wanna go for a breed that has mega energy.
